Jethawks Winning Streak Snapped At Five

Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Fernando Perez hit a three-run home run in the first inning and that was all the Lake Elsinore Storm would need, as they knocked off the JetHawks 3-1 on Saturday night at The Diamond and snapped Lancaster's five-game winning streak.

All the runs in the game came in the first. The JetHawks took a brief lead after Johnny Sewald doubled with one out, stole second, and scored on a Ramon Laureano ground out. Sewald had two of the three hits in the game for the JetHawks.

The Storm also started their rally in the opening frame with one out. Josh VanMeter walked and Luis Urias followed with a single, before Perez hit his long blast over the 36-foot high right field wall.

Six of the 10 hits in the game for Lake Elsinore were infield hits. The Storm left 11 runners on base.

After JetHawks starter Rogelio Armenteros (4-2) struggled through the first two innings, throwing 58 pitches, he settled in to retire seven in a row beginning with the final out of the second. He tossed five innings, gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out five.

Chris Huffman (4-2), who started the All-Star game on his home field, was in top form for the Storm. The right-hander allowed just three hits in his seven innings of work, walking two and striking out three. After Sewald's one-out single in the third, Huffman set down the next 13 JetHawks in a row.

Andrew Thome and Jacob Dorris were both effective out of the Lancaster bullpen. Thome threw two shutout innings, while Dorris tossed a shutout frame and struck out two.

The JetHawks and Storm conclude their four-game series on Sunday night at The Diamond. Dean Deetz (4-3) will start for Lancaster against Walter Lockett (2-3). First pitch is 6:30 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
