Lancaster JetHawks News Release

Lancaster, Ca. – The JetHawks received nine walks – seven of which scored – in a 14-8 win over Rancho Cucamonga at the Hangar. Lancaster (18-16) wins their second straight after a five game losing streak to move into second place in the South Division. The Quakes (17-16) fall to third in the South, extending their season long losing streak to five games.

The JetHawks took advantage of walks and errors to break a 6-6 tie in the seventh. Free passes to Marland Williams, Josh Kroeger, and Sergio Santos loaded the bases with one out. Jaime Jones then grounded to second, where Justin Turner threw wildly past the bag and into left center field to score two runs. Kyle Nichols extended the rally with a double to left center field, scoring two more, and Bryan Johnson followed with a two-base hit to score Nichols. Johnson scored the sixth run of the inning when third baseman Casey Smith mishandled Mayo Santana's ground ball.

Dan Uggla ripped his team leading sixth home run of the season, capping a four run second inning. His three-run homer came with two outs to break a 1-1 tie. Josh Kroeger added his fifth homer and league leading 24th extra-base hit, with a solo blast in the fifth.

Jaime Jones extended his hitting streak to 12 games in his final at-bat. Jones doubled to right-center field to score Dan Uggla, who walked to begin the bottom of the eighth.

Overshadowed was the career night for the Quakes' Mike Eylward. Hitting just .157 entering the game, Eylward was 4-for-4, including his first two home runs of the season, and drove in five runs.

Francisco Trejo (1-0) earned the win in relief, despite allowing four hits and three earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Lefty Jon Rouwenhorst (0-3) took the loss, allowing all six eighth inning runs (one earned) while walking three.

Scott Barber (3-2, 7.47) takes the mound for the JetHawks in the second game of the three game series. Mike Nickoli (0-0, 0.00) pitches for the Quakes in a 7:15 p.m. game.
