Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA CA) - The JetHawks were cruising merrily along- until the seventh inning. Up 7-0, the JetHawks surrendered six runs to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, making it a one run contest. But the JetHawks bullpen held, getting a key double play in the bottom of the ninth on the way to a 7-6 win. The JetHawks have now won back-to-back games and three out of their last four, all on the road.

In the early going the game looked like a potential blowout. Yamaico Navarro helped spark the offense for a second straight night. Navarro hit a two-run double in the second inning after Luis Exposito hit a two-run homer as Lancaster led 4-0. Navarro singled in a run in the fourth inning and ended up with five hits, three of them doubles as the JetHawks opened up a 7-0 lead in the seventh inning.

Derrick Loop pitched very well in his first start for the JetHawks. Loop went five innings without allowing a run, striking out six and scattering just three hits to earn the win. Craig Molldrem retired the side in order in the sixth inning before trouble rose in the seventh.

Molldrem was the victim of misfortune early in the frame as the first two batters got infield hits. That was followed by a bunt single to load the bases. The wheels came off after that as the JetHawks allowed seven hits in the inning, leading to six runs and shortening the lead to one. However, Felipe Garcia retired the side in the eighth and got a double play on a line drive in the ninth. Jason Blackey came out of the bullpen to get the final out and save the win.

Michael Jones and Zak Farkes each had two hits for Lancaster. Reid Engel hit a solo home run. Exposito has now hit in 14 straight games, matching the longest hitting streak for a JetHawks player this season.

The JetHawks conclude a six-game road trip Sunday evening against Rancho Cucamonga. Chris Jones (5-7) starts for Lancaster while the Quakes counter with Alexander Torres (1-1). The game starts at 5:05 PM. The radio coverage is broadcast live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com with the Pre-Game show starting at 4:50.
