Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - At last, the Lancaster JetHawks broke through against the High Desert Mavericks at home Wednesday night. They jumped out to a six run lead, got a quality start from Casey Hudspeth, and hung on for a critical 10-7 win. With the win, the JetHawks get back to within four games of the second half divisional lead and set up a series rubber match Thursday night.

Lancaster exploded for six runs in the third, but not without a little help from High Desert, who committed four errors in the inning - including two in one play. Craig Corrado and J.B. Shuck singled to lead off the inning, then Ebert Rosario was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jon Gaston opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left field; the throw from left fielder Carlos Peguero was way up the first base line and allowed Shuck to advance to third, and Rosario to second. Matt Weston won a nine-pitch battle with a single to center to score them both. Koby Clemens then singled and then Brandon Barnes hit a ground ball under the glove of third baseman Alex Liddi. Clemens went to third and Barnes to second on another error by Peguero. Marcos Cabral then singled them both in on a line drive to right.

After the Mavericks answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, the JetHawks responded with two of their own in the bottom half. Clemens drove in Rosario for his 83rd RBI of the season.

Gaston and Clemens added to their monster offensive numbers in the sixth inning. Gaston hit his California League and Minor League Baseball leading 29th home run, and two hitters later Koby Clemens hit a rocket over the batters' eye in center field for his 84th RBI, which is good for a tie for the league lead.

High Desert did score five runs in the eighth inning, but Fernando Abad was once again the stopper at the back of the bullpen and got his third save by pitching a perfect one and two thirds innings while striking out three.

The JetHawks will look to take their first series from the Mavericks at home tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:45 PM on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com. It is the Halloween Spooktacular, with a costume competition and parade before the game.
