Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks battled back from an early six-run deficit, but it was not enough Saturday as the Storm won, 16-12, at The Hangar. The Storm scored in all nine innings as Lancaster fell to four games back in the standings.
Lake Elsinore (33-27, 69-60) jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs before the JetHawks got on the board. Lancaster (31-30, 65-64) managed to rally and take the lead thanks to a pair of big innings.
Luis Castro started a four-run fourth inning with a two-run blast to left field. The home run was Castro's 22nd with the JetHawks this season. He reached base five times in the contest.
Lancaster scored four more in the fifth inning, taking the lead on Matt McLaughlin's two-run double with two outs. The JetHawks were up, 8-7, despite trailing by six runs after three innings.
The lead was short-lived, as Jack Suwinski tied the game with a home run to begin the sixth inning. The game was tied, 9-9, after seven innings.
The Storm pulled away with six runs in the eighth inning, all against Salvador Justo (3-3). They added another run in the ninth to give them a run in every inning.
Lake Elsinore had 21 hits in the game, tied for the most allowed by Lancaster this season. All nine batters had at least a hit, and two different Storm players scored four runs.
Felix Minjarez (1-0) got the win in his Cal League debut despite allowing a run. All five Storm pitchers gave up at least one run in the contest, but the offense was more than the JetHawks could handle.
The Storm have won four in a row over the JetHawks at The Hangar, scoring a combined 55 runs in those four games. Lancaster is four games back of Lake Elsinore in the standings with nine games left to play. Six of those nine are between the JetHawks and Storm.
The four-game set continues Sunday evening. Ryan Rolison (5-6) gets the start for Lancaster against Elliot Ashbeck (6-2). First pitch at The Hangar is 5:05 pm.
