Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Lake Elsinore Storm, and consequently, out of first place in the South Division on Wednesday night.

Lake Elsinore took game one, 7-2, and came right back to win the second game, 4-2, in the makeup of the April 8 dust storm postponement at The Hangar.

With Inland Empire's win over Rancho Cucamonga earlier in the day, the JetHawks fell out of first place for the first time since April 7. They are now a half game behind the 66ers.

The Storm took the momentum early in game one. Cory Spangenberg hit a leadoff home run to start the game against JetHawks starter Luis Cruz (1-3).

Lancaster tied it on an Andrew Aplin run-scoring hit in the third inning only to have Lake Elsinore break it open with four runs in the fifth inning.

Justin Miller hit a go-ahead two-run homer off Cruz and the Storm added two more runs to chase the JetHawks starter. Cruz finished with five runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings. He gave up two home runs and walked three.

Preston Tucker blasted his team-leading sixth home run to leadoff the final inning but that's all the JetHawks could muster.

Lake Elsinore also jumped ahead early in game two. Spangenberg led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Kyle Gaedele led off the second inning with a single and scored on a Travis Jankowski ground out.

Lancaster tied the game in the fifth inning. An Aplin bunt single and two errors loaded the bases with nobody out. Tucker picked up a run with a single and Matt Duffy was a hit by a pitch to bring in a run but the JetHawks could only tie it up.

The Storm took the lead right back in the fifth inning. Starter Tommy Shirley (0-3) gave up back-to-back hits to start the frame and Travis Ballew was called upon from the bullpen.

Yeison Asencio tripled off Ballew to drive in Spangenberg and then scored on a Justin Miller single to make the score 4-2.

Matt Lollis (2-2) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Johnny Barbato pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

Over the first three game of the series, the JetHawks (18-15) are 3-for-26 with runners in scoring position. They take on the Storm (11-21) in the final game of the series on Thursday at 7:00 pm at The Hangar.

Don't miss a moment of the 2013 season as the JetHawks look to repeat as California League Champions. Season tickets and great ticket packages are available now. To order, call (661) 726-5400 or visit jethawks.com.
