Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) The Lancaster JetHawks returned home to the Hangar on Friday night after a grueling ten-game road trip. They played a dramatic opening game in their final homestand and ended up falling 6-5 to the Inland Empire 66ers. The JetHawks put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth but grounded into a game-ending double play to end the proceedings.

Things did not start well for Lancaster; in the first inning Elian Herrerra singled and stole two bases to reach third. He then came into score the game's first run on a passed ball. Scott Van Slyke later scored on a passed ball and the Sixers were in front 2-0.

The JetHawks did get it right back in the first inning. J.B. Shuck led off the game with a triple to right field and came in to score on a first-pitch groundout by Ebert Rosario. Rosario tied the game with a solo homer to left in the third inning.

Former JetHawk Christian Lara hit a critical three-run homer the opposite way to right field in the fourth inning to put the Sixers ahead 5-2, and they scored their sixth run on another wild pitch, this time from Ashton Mowdy.

The JetHawks made the game close with three runs in the seventh. Marcos Cabral led off the inning with a single to center. With one out Ronnie Ramirez singled to right to move Cabral into scoring position. Andy Simunic then singled Cabral home with a bullet to right field that pushed Ramirez to third. After a J.B. Shuck single and a Rosario strikeout, Jon Gaston singled in two runs and the score was 6-5.

The JetHawks got the tying run to second base when Gaston singled and Koby Clemens was hit by a pitch. But a double play ended their comeback hopes.

The two teams resume their series tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com/csn beginning at 6:45. The JetHawks send Chris Hicks to the hill for his final start in 2009 in search of his tenth win. The JetHawks will auction off the players' game jerseys throughout the game. It is also Team Poster Night, and the first 1500 fans will receive the 2009 JetHawks Team Poster.
