JetHawks Come From Behind to Beat Mavericks 4-2

August 18, 2008 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Another strong pitching performance by the JetHawks gave the Lancaster hitters enough time for a come back against the High Desert Mavericks. They scored twice in the seventh inning to take their first lead of the game. The bullpen held and the JetHawks won 4-2, their third straight win and the Mavericks' eighth straight loss. The magic number for Lancaster to secure the top seed in the Southern Division is now at nine.

Chris Jones turned in another strong performance, holding the opponent to two runs or less for the third straight outing. Jones pitched seven innings for just the second time this season, however, when he left the game it looked like he might take a loss as the JetHawks were trailing 2-1.

The bottom of the order came through for Lancaster in the seventh inning. Zak Farkes reached on an error, a mistake the Mavericks would pay for. Aaron Reza doubled to right field to move Farkes to third. Matt Sheely shot a ball through the hole into right field to drive in the tying run. Kris Negron's sacrifice fly put Lancaster on top and proved to be the winning run.

A home run by Negron had started the scoring for Lancaster in the fifth inning. Jon Still added a solo shot in the eighth. Jason Blackey pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fifth save.

The JetHawks continue a three-game home series Tuesday night against High Desert. Chris Province (5-3) starts for Lancaster while the Mavericks counter with Travis Mortimore (1-4). The game starts at 7:00 PM. The radio coverage is broadcast live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com with the Pre-Game Show beginning at 6:45.

Individual game tickets for all JetHawks home games, including playoff games, are available in person at the JetHawks Box Office Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 5 PM or Saturdays from 10 AM - 3 PM. Great ticket packages for multiple games are also available starting at just $56 for eight games. More information can be found on-line at www.JetHawks.com.
