Lancaster JetHawks News Release
Lancaster, Ca. â Lake Elsinore's dormant offense finally came alive. Using a six-run sixth, the Storm snapped their five game losing streak with a 9-6 win against the JetHawks at the Hangar. Lancaster (16-11) drops to 4-2 on the current seven game home stand, while the Storm (14-13) also snap a six game road losing streak, in climbing back over the .500 mark.
For the second time in three games, the JetHawks blew an early 3-0 lead. Starter Justin Wechsler allowed two runs with two outs in the fifth, before walking the first two he faced in the sixth. On a 2-1 pitch to Joe Gerber, Wechsler doubled over in pain as his pitch went to the backstop. After examination by the staff and trainer Adam Weyer, Wechsler remained in the game, but walked Gerber before being removed.
Josh Castellanos relieved, and allowed five straight hits, including Josh Carter's two-run home run. Joe Hastings added a two-run double, and J.J. Furmaniak a run scoring single, as the Storm scored six times in sending nine men to the plate.
Wechsler (2-1) was shouldered with the loss, walking four, and allowing four runs in five plus innings.
Lake Elsinore was sloppy defensively, committing four errors â including three in the sixth â leading to three unearned runs.
Javier Martinez (1-1) won his first game of the season despite his teams' play behind him. Martinez was charged with five runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings.
Josh Kroeger and Jaime Jones both continued their torrid hitting pace, with two hits apiece. Kroeger doubled and tripled, while Jones singled twice. Each had a run scored and an RBI.
The three game series concludes with a 2 p.m. start. Doug Slaten (3-1, 3.73) takes the mound against Justin Wiedmeyer, who makes his first appearance of the season for the Storm.
