Lancaster JetHawks News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Despite collecting nine hits, the JetHawks were unable to manufacture runs and were shut out by the Bakersfield Blaze, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
James Ramsay led the JetHawks (72-62) with four hits, all singles. Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, the third-longest hitting streak for a Lancaster player this season.
Starter Troy Scribner (2-6) received the loss, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four over just three innings of work.
With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, Kyle Petty singled to left-center to plate Aaron Barbosa and Tim Lopes for a 2-0 Blaze (56-78) lead. Barbosa had singled, and Lopes and Tyler O'Neill had both walked to fill the bases against Scribner. Petty's single drove in the only two runs of the contest.
Lancaster's best run-scoring opportunity came in top of the seventh inning, when Derek Fisher led off with a single. Ronnie Mitchell then doubled off the left field wall, but Fisher anticipated a catch in left field and was stopped at third on the play. Both runners were left stranded at the end of the inning, and the JetHawks finished the game just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Brett Ash (8-8) pitched seven scoreless innings for Bakersfield and recorded the win, striking out five. Will Mathis and Emilio Pagan each tossed one scoreless frame of relief, with the latter earning the save.
Michael Freeman and Kevin Comer combined for five scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the JetHawks, limiting the Blaze to one hit and two walks between the fourth and eighth innings.
First pitch for the second games of the series on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Enrique Chavez (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start for the JetHawks, and the Blaze will send Scott DeCecco (2-3, 3.83) to the mound.
