Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - For the second straight night, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes benefited from a terrific performance out of their starting pitcher, resulting in a victory over the Lancaster JetHawks. This time, right-hander Matt Shoemaker shut down the JetHawks offense as the Quakes posted a 9-1 win at Clear Channel Stadium Friday.
The JetHawks struck first with a run in the opening frame off Shoemaker. Jay Austin laced a leadoff double into the right field corner and advanced to third on Brandon Wikoff's single. Two batters later, Mark Ori drove in Austin with an RBI groundout to put Lancaster in front 1-0.
After the Quakes knotted the score at 1-1 with a run in the third, JetHawks starter Brad Dydalewicz ran into trouble in the fourth. Gabe Jacobo led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball from JetHawks catcher Federico Hernandez. Following an RBI groundout by Dillon Baird, Dydalewicz issued consecutive walks to Angel Castillo and Beau Brooks. The walks came back to haunt Dydalewicz when Rian Kiniry bashed a three-run home run over the right field wall, which gave Rancho Cucamonga a 5-1 lead.
A four-run lead was more than enough cushion for Shoemaker, who limited the JetHawks to one earned run while scattering seven hits in six innings of work. Shoemaker (1-1) recorded right strikeouts and allowed just one walk en route to earning his first victory of the season. Quakes relievers Robert Fish and Jeremy Haynes combined to toss three innings of scoreless relief. Dydalewicz (0-1) took the loss for Lancaster.
With the win, the Quakes improved to 4-5 while the loss dropped Lancaster to 1-7 in 2010.
The JetHawks will try to earn their first win in the four-game series when the two teams meet on Saturday at the Hangar. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Tune for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:45 on www.jethawks.com/csn.
