Jersey Express News Release

East Orange, N.J. (Tuesday, September 15, 2009) - The Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association announced today that they will be holding their final open tryouts for the 2009-10 ABA season on Sunday, October 18th. Through their partnership with the Newark Urban Coordinating Council and Network Youth Basketball of Newark, the tryouts will be taking place from 11-3:00 p.m. at the Westside Park Gym in Newark with the Express expecting to sign players for their 2009-10 roster.

"We've signed some extremely good talent from the prior two summer tryouts, talent that we feel could compete on the international or NBA level," Express President Marsha Blount stated. "With vet camp beginning the week after the October 18th tryout, we're looking to fill the final 7-10 spots for camp. We'll go to camp with 20 players competing to make the active roster, and those that have not been signed yet have been invited to vet camp to compete for the final spots."

Blount and the Express have very high expectations for the upcoming season, which will be their fifth year on the hardwood.

"This is the season that we expect to compete for the championship," she said. "Opportunity is knocking. How will you answer?"

Pre-registration for tryouts is available through the Jersey Express website at www.jerseyexpress.net, and the cost for early registration is $75. The fee on the day of tryouts will be $100, with only cash being accepted that day. Players interested in trying out should wear basketball attire and be prepared to do a number of drills that will focus on both skill and overall knowledge of the game. As more information is made available regarding tryouts, it will be posted to the Express website.
