December 21, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release
The Express had a big weekend, centered on giving back to the community! On Friday, they held a Toy Drive for the National Guard, and Saturday's game was dedicated to Jersey City's Sports Legends. The Express beat the NYC Thunder (128-92) on Friday and the Staten Island Vipers (104-90) on Saturday.
`I'd like to thank all the Honorees in attendance for their hard work, and influence in the field of sports and education in Jersey City. With commitments from the honorees to help share the community goals of the Express, we feel our involvement and partnership with the City will continue to increase. I look forward to working with Mr. Franklin Walker, Interim Superintendent of Jersey City Public Schools, who was one of the honorees. This was the first, and surely not the last celebration of Jersey City's Legends; stated team owner Marsha Blount.
Here's a list of honorees: Franklin Walker, James Adams, Tom Favia, Courtney Wicks, Bill Hampton, Jerry Walker, Ray Ortiz, Keith Davis, Fred Garlin, Charles `Mandy' Johnson, Larry Ross, and Leon Bailey.
We would like to invite ALL of Jersey City's Public School System out to our upcoming game on Friday, December 30th. With the kids being on Holiday break, until after the 1st, we offer families a night of exciting, fun-filled, family entertainmentright in their own back yard; sated Jeff Brown, Sr. Director of Operations for the Express.
Head Coach Joe Amador discussed his feelings on the back-to-back victories. "I am very proud and pleased the way the team played this weekend. Everyone played a part, continuing to build on our chemistry and commitment to winning. We're 6-3, and would like to finish off 2011 with a big win over Connecticut".
The Express would like to hold a pre-game, and halftime contest for 4 local teams to compete on the Express floor, and meet the players. Contact Jeff Brown, Sr. at jbrown@jerseyexpress.net.
On Friday, December 30th, the Express will host the Connecticut TopBallerz at the Jersey City Armory at 7:30pm. This will be the first visit to NJ for the TopBallerz!
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
