Jersey Express Announce Open Tryout Date
August 2, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release
East Orange, N.J. (Monday, August 2, 2010) - The Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association announced today that the team will be holding open tryouts for their 2010-11 roster on Saturday, August 28th. The tryouts will be taking place that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and will be hosted at East Orange Campus High School, the official home court of the Jersey Express.
"We're hoping to ascertain guys that can help us build on the success from last season," Express head coach Cassaundra Smith stated. "We want guys that are motivated by team accomplishments, not personal ones. Each year, all five starting spots will be up for grabs. That will ensure that returning players will remain driven to get better. We are not the champions, so we can change."
The cost of tryouts will be $100 (money order only) if players register before Friday, August 27th. On the day of the tryouts, the cost to participate will be $125, and cash will be the only accepted form of payment. Registration for tryouts will start promptly at 2:00 p.m. and close at 2:45 p.m. The address for the host site of East Orange Campus High School is 344 Prospect Street in East Orange, New Jersey, and anyone interested in pre-registering can do so online at www.jerseyexpress.net.
The Jersey Express is one of the longest running franchises in the newly reformed ABA, with the team entering its sixth season of play during the upcoming 2010-11 season. The team has made the playoffs in each of its past three seasons, including back-to-back appearances in the ABA Elite Eight. The Express received a handful of season accolades this past year with guard Ahmad "Beanie" Mosby being named the 2009-10 ABA Rookie of the Year, while forward Devin Davis received All-ABA Second Team honors with honorable mentions going to center Antoinne Morgano and Mosby.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
