
Jemeil Rich named to CBA Second Team

GARY, Ind. (March 16, 2004) â Steelheads guard Jemeil Rich was named to the Continental Basketball Association's All-League Second Team on Tuesday.
The 5-foot-10 Rich led the CBA in assists with 10.6 per game and was second in steals with 2.7 per game. He ranked 16th in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. He averaged a double-double for points and assists and had 20 double-doubles during the 2003-04 season as helped lead the Steelheads to their best record ever and their first-ever playoff appearance. He handed out a league- and Steelheads-high 23 assists at Sioux Falls on March 2.
"It's an honor to receive such recognition, but I would rather still be playing in the playoffs," Rich said. "I want everyone to realize that we all played as a team and each of my teammates are just as deserving of recognition for the fine season we had."
During the playoffs, Rich also averaged a double-double. He averaged 22.0 points and 10.5 assists in four games while also averaging 4.25 steals per game. His 16 assists at Idaho on March 9 and his eight steals vs. Idaho on March 12 are currently league highs for the playoffs.
The Gary native and former Roosevelt High School and Southern Methodist University star is the Steelheads all-time assists and steals leader with 856 and 250 respectively. He was a CBA American Team All-Star selection (eight points, 11 assists) for the second straight year and recently made the CBA All-Defensive Team for the second straight year. His 498 assists and 127 steals this season are Steelheads single-season highs. He also earned CBA Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 29-March 7.
Idaho's Josh Davis, Sioux Falls' Leonard White, Yakima's Anthony Goldwire, Dakota's Kaniel Dickens and Rockford's Ronnie Fields were named to the First Team. Also making the Second Team were Idaho's DeSean Hadley, Sioux Falls' David Jackson, Dakota's Maurice Carter and Idaho's Randy Livingston.
