Jeff Christian Scores Game Winner in 10-9 Northern Conference Shootout Win At All-Star Game

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds forward Jeff Christian may have been the lone SteelHound representative at the 2006 Central Hockey League All-Star Game in Hidalgo, Texas (home of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees) but he certainly made some noise on Wednesday evening in front of 4,975 fans at the Dodge Arena as he scored the game deciding goal in a shootout propelling the Northern Conference to a 10-9 victory.

Christian entered the game leading the CHL in goals with 32 making it only fitting that he lit the lamp late in the second period making the score 6-4 in favor of the North. Early in the second period Christian helped on Bossier-Shreveport's Scott Sheppard's goal that made the score 5-3 in favor of the North. For the game, the SteelHound's Captain finished with two goals (including the game winner), an assist and four shots on goal.

The Northern Conference held a 7-4 lead after two periods but the Southern Conference came storming back scoring three straight goals in the final period to tie the score at seven apiece. The teams traded the next four goals sending the game to overtime. The decision was settled in a shootout with Christian selected to shoot fourth for the Northern Conference and with the shootout even at a goal apiece the veteran beat Rio Grande Valley's Evan Lindsay giving the North the 2-1 shootout advantage which was good enough for the win.

All Star Notes:

The league's leading point scorer, Derek Hahn of Amarillo, was held without a point and was a minus- 6...Laredo's Jeff Bes, who scored a hat trick earlier this season against Youngstown, scored four goals and had an assist...The line of Laredo's Bes and James Hiebert along with Lubbock's Nolan Graham combined to score five goals with eight assists...Odessa's Mike Gorman (coming to NE Ohio to play the Hounds this weekend) stopped 19 of 23 shots in goal for the Southern Conference...Wichita's trio of Travis Clayton, Joe Blaznek and Jason Duda combined to score three goals with four assists and were put together as a line...each team failed to convert on their lone power play chances....The North outshot the South 55-42.
