East Kentucky Miners News Release

PIKEVILLE, KY. - The East Kentucky Miners professional basketball organization continues to gain fans of all ages. An expansion squad headed into its first season in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association), the East Kentucky pro hoops team is committed to being involved in communities throughout Eastern Kentucky. The Miners were introduced to Eastern Kentuckians during a press conference held Thursday, July 19 at the East Kentucky Expo Center. The press conference, which was open to members of the media and the public, featured many well wishes. After honoring TV, newspaper and radio interview requests Thursday night, former NFL quarterback Jay Fiedler, who with Demetrius Ford co-founded Trinity Sports & Entertainment Group Inc., owner of the East Kentucky Miners, spoke to the Pikeville High School football team. During his time in the NFL, Fiedler completed 1,008 of 1,717 passes for 11,844 yards and 69 touchdowns. In 2001, Fiedler started 16 regular-season games for the Miami Dolphins, passing for 3,290 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Fiedler and Ford stopped by a combined football session being held on StoneCrest Mountain in Prestonsburg Friday afternoon. With a youth football camp being conducted on the same field opposite a Prestonsburg High School practice, numerous young gridiron hopefuls were able to listen and take tips from the NFL veteran. Those youngsters present at the Prestonsburg practice field were also on the receiving end of a Fiedler-thrown football.

The Prestonsburg and Pikeville football players expressed a great interest in following the Miners during their debut season. In each of his appearances, Fiedler stressed hard work, dedication and making the most of opportunities.

"You'll have a lot of different opportunities come your way," Fiedler said. "Be sure you make the most of those opportunities and work hard every day."
