Jasper's Spencer Sapp to Take Mound Wednesday

May 28, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

Spencer Sapp will start Wednesday against the Springfield Sliders at 7:15 p.m. Sapp, a left-handed pitcher native to Jasper, recently finished his first year pitching for Indiana University and looks to kick off the home slate of what promises to be a great summer of Bombers baseball.

The Bombers open on the road with Taylor Luna pitching Tuesday in Springfield at 7:35 p.m. Fans can follow the Bombers online via Internet radio at http://www.teamline.cc/sportpage?teamcode2946&eventcode5 .

The ability to follow the Bombers on the road is just one of many new features to the Dubois County baseball experience this summer. A decidedly retro atmosphere has enveloped the team as the Bombers make a concerted effort to make a trip to League Stadium a family friendly look at an older era of baseball and capitalize on the historic nature of the stadium.

Players will wear uniforms with a 1940's look, and the team will travel to road games in a bus detailed to resemble to the bus used in the 1992 baseball classic A League of Their Own; "Dubois County Bombers" is written on one side while the name of the "Rockford Peaches" squad from the movie is painted on the other.

"We feel like the stadium is our greatest strength," said Bombers general manager Gary Freymiller. "We're going for that World War II look."

"So we wanted to make the uniforms match the stadium, and we want the bus to be a kind of rolling billboard for League Stadium and the Bombers and the City of Huntingburg."
