Jared Cunningham Named IBL Player of the Week

For the second time this season 6'9" F Jared Cunningham's stats for the last week, in two games earn him another POTW nod. With outstanding efficiency averaging 37ppg, putting up a season high so far for all scorers in the IBL at 52 points, this 2012 IBL All Star is still leading the league in scoring, and is proving himself during the grind within the grind, his teammates, Coach and competition agree.
"I think Jared has a lot of talent and potential to be a very successful basketball player," fellow Chinooks teammate 6'8" F David Lucas shared. "Leading the league in scoring, this season I have seen his attitude change. He is thinking about the long term, doing things coach needs him to do. Cunningham is committed, comes to at all the practices, to all the games and is playing hard on both ends of the court. He is dedicated and it shows as he is more productive on the court." Lucas concluded.
Associate Head Coach Wegner of the Chinooks agrees, "Jared has done a great job, his shooting percentages are top notch for a volume shooter, he is a scorer. That is the best thing he does, and he is working on other elements of his game rebounding and passing, willing to work on his game. We talk about those things that it will take to play at the next level and he is a good kid to coach. Jared is exuberant, passionate, energetic and as he matures in different areas he will be a very special player.``
Even the competition agrees, from on and off the IBL court. One of the rivalries in the IBL is two teams with a bridge between them, the Portland Chinooks and the Vancouver Volcanoes. Fellow 2012 IBL All Star and Rookie of the Year is supportive of his workout buddy outside of IBL competition.
"I want to congratulate Jared Cunningham on getting his second POTW, something I did last season" 6'6" F Chehales (Chey) Tapscott of the Volcanoes shared. "There is a strong rivalry with Portland, we are two of the most talented teams. Jared and I worked out all last summer together, guys like him, Ford, Hartune, I have played with all these guys and it has become a fun and competitive rivalry. Jared has got a lot better than last year, come along as a leader, and is really starting to shoot the ball better. I told him basically to get his post game up and he certainly did and it shows so far this season, he is not easy to defend and deserves player of the week. His game helps me improve my game, right now he is outshining me, so I have to outshine him back, every week we kind of raise the bar for each other."
This is Cunninghams second nod this season, but he is after a championship and maybe a scoring title. Putting up 52 points, the highest by a player in the IBL so far this season using his time away from the IBL to help kids through Big Time Individual Skillz Training, this standout is proud of his performance and his teammates.
"I believe I have proven myself within the league showcasing my talent, handling business on and off the court," Cunningham shared. "When my team is winning that makes me look a lot better, and I wouldn't look like the player I am without my teammates getting it done with me and for me. I am getting more confident as season goes along, in better shape, and doesn't hurt that my shot is falling, it might be my workouts at Shoot 360," he chuckles.
