Alpena MI: On St. Patty's day the Alpena IceDiggers (35-20-4) had the luck of the Irish on their side as they finished their regular season home schedule with an impressive 8-0 victory over in-state rival Traverse City (17-35-6) in front of a season high 1,043 fans at Northern Lights Arena.

Goaltender Mike Jarboe (Grosse Pte. Park MI) earned his second shut-out in three games this week making 28 saves for the win. In 180 minutes of hockey Jarboe allowed just two goals and made 85 saves in the three victories. "Mike was outstanding once again, he is the type of guy to give credit to his teammates but he played well again tonight, he is playing his best hockey at the right time with the playoffs coming up." said head coach Kenny Miller. This is the first time in franchise history an Alpena netminder has recorded two shut-outs in one weekend.

Jimmy McCusker (Novi MI) and Carl Nielsen (Lorain OH) each had two goals. Evan West (Marysville MI), Marco Ruggeri (St. Clair Shores), Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) Todd Rudasill (Powell OH), each had one goal. Rudasill netted his 30th of the season. Pierson's goal was his team leading 32nd goal of the campaign.

The Diggers' were 1 for 1 on the powerplay while Traverse City was 0 for 1. Alpena has successfully defended 26 consecutive powerplay's without giving up a goal. The last powerplay goal came on March 2nd in a 8-3 Alpena win over USA U-17. The IceDiggers have not allowed a powerplay goal in 19 periods.

Northern Lights Arena has been good to the IceDiggers this season as they finished the home schedule with 21 victories a franchise high. "This is how we wanted to end our home schedule, I am real happy for the guys, the staff as well as the ownership group, last season was tough on all of us and we didn't give up and because of that we were able to have a good regular season this year, but we know we have our work cut out for us in the postseason if we want to get to Fairbanks and try for a Robertson Cup title." added Miller. "On behalf of the entire organization I would like to personally thank the fans, the game night volunteers and everyone that helps make the IceDiggers successful for their endless support and we look forward to seeing all of those supporters during the playoffs."

Alpena has three games remaining, all of which will come on the road. The IceDiggers will finish the regular season schedule with two games in Mahoning Valley (44-12-1) next Friday March 23rd and Saturday March 24th at 7:00PM both nights. The team will then head to Marquette on April 1st to take on the Rangers (23-30-4) for a 3:00PM start.
