Connecticut Whale News Release

DANBURY, CT - The high-skilled forward and fan favorite Janine Weber has signed a contract to play next season with the Connecticut Whale. In addition to competing in her fifth season in the NWHL, the longtime member of Austria's National Team aims to once again be part of Team Austria as it seeks to qualify for the next Olympics.

"I'm excited to be back with the Whale since I had a ton of fun coming back late last season and loved playing professional hockey again," said Weber. "We played some great games and really grew as a team by the end of the season, thanks to the commitment of all of the players and [head coach] Colton Orr and the staff. With the players that {GM] Bray Ketchum and the coaches have been able to add to our team this offseason, I'm positive we will be competitive from our opening game and contend for the championship."

After signing with the Whale in the middle of last season, Weber had four assists in eight games. She previously spent one season as a member of the Boston Pride and the first two seasons of the NWHL with the Riveters. In 2016-17, Weber led the Riveters in scoring with 10-12-22 in 17 games. In her one season in the CWHL, she scored the game-winning goal to win the Clarkson Cup for the Boston Blades.

While attending graduate school at Providence, the forward from Innsbruck, Austria

played 35 games for the team in her one year of U.S. college eligibility. Before coming to Providence in 2013, Weber developed in various Austrian girls' hockey leagues. The 29-year-old Weber has been a member of the Austrian National Team for more than a decade.

"Janine is a powerhouse," said Whale associate coach Laura Brennan. "She is a constant scoring threat and outstanding playmaker who is able to create opportunities out of nothing. We are thrilled to welcome Janine back to the Pod for the NWHL's sixth season."
