Jacksonville, FL (April 3rd)- Jacksonville scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to break a 3-3 tie, as they went on to defeat the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 6-3 in the Southern League opener for both clubs. The game was played in front of a crowd of 5289 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Jason Mackintosh (0-1) allowed a walk and back to back infield singles to begin the 7th inning. Roman Martinez came in to relieve Mackintosh, but gave up back to back RBI singles by Ivan DeJesus Jr. and Greg Jacobs to make it a 5-3 game. Lucas May made it 6-3 with a sacrifice fly, his second of the game. Eduardo Sierra (1-0) picked up the win in relief of James McDonald, who allowed three runs on six hits over three innings of work. The Jacksonville bullpen trio of Cory Wade, Sierra and former big leaguer Yhency Brazoban combined to throw six hitless innings of relief. Brazoban struckout the side in the ninth inning to nail down his first save of the year.
Adam Moore homered and drove in two runs while Shawn Garrett had two hits and a RBI to lead the Diamond Jaxx six hit attack.
Game two of the five game series is set for Friday night at 6:05 CDT. Righty Rich Dorman gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. He will be opposed by Jacksonville left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
