Jacks Trade Lukas Laub to Magicians for First and Fifth Round Pick in 2014 Draft

Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes, members of the North American Hockey League, announce they have traded their leading scorer from the 2013-14 season, Lukas Laub along with a third round pick to the Minnesota Magicians for their first round pick (fourth overall) and fifth round pick in the 2014 NAHL Draft.
The forward from Rosenheim, Germany, lead the Jacks in goals with 16 and points with 30 in the 2013-14 campaign. His point outburst in the first half of the season earned him a spot at the NAHL's annual Top Prospects event, where Laub lead the tournament in scoring with two goals and an assist.
It will be difficult to replace Laub's speed and skill but at the end of the day, Coach Greg Gatto wants players who want to play in Odessa.
"Luki was a bit discouraged when he was not picked in the USHL draft, so we wanted to give him the best opportunity to get a Division I commitment," Said Gatto. "He feels like he has a better shot at that while playing up north,"
When talking about the draft picks the Jacks received in the trade, Gatto was quick to point out that he wants players who want to play in Odessa.
"We are not wasting picks this season. Picking first and fourth overall in the draft is a great position to be in, but as a coaching staff, we need to do our due diligence to make sure the player(s) we select want to play in Odessa,"
The NAHL draft takes place on June 3rd at 1:00 pm Central Time. You can follow along live on facebook and twitter, as well as listen live on FASTHockey.com
In 2014-15, the Odessa Jackalopes will embark upon their fourth season in the North American Hockey League and 18th in the Permian Basin. Season tickets are on sale now!
