
Jacks Score Four Unanswered, Escape Youngstown with 4-1 over Phantoms

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Muskegon Lumberjacks were able to earn and collect two points of the weekend series, snapping a three-game losing skid while cruising to a 4-to-1 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms on Sunday, April 3, 2022, from the Covelli Centre. The Jacks received goals from four different scorers, those being Phil Tresca, Jack Williams, Quinn Hutson, and Parker Lindauer. In the crease, Chase Clark backstopped the Lumberjacks with 15 saves for his sixth win of the season. With the win, Muskegon stiff arms Youngstown to remain in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall record of 29-20-3-3 and 64 points.
1st Period
Despite outshooting Youngstown 10-to-6 in the opening period and killing off two Phantom power plays, the Lumberjacks could not find the back of the net through 20 minutes of action.
After the first period, neither team was able to light the lamp as both teams skated to the first intermission tied 0-to-0.
2nd Period
Fifty-seven seconds into the middle stanza, Youngstown quickly jumped out in front with a goal from Justin Varner to give the Phantoms the 1-to-0 lead. Varner's 10th of the season was assisted by Tiernan Shoudy and Trey Taylor.
Muskegon would respond at 4:06 of the second period with a one-time slap shot from Phil Tresca to level the score 1-to-1. Tresca's 27th goal of the year was assisted by Quinn Hutson.
The Lumberjacks would get their first lead of the afternoon after captain Jack Williams piped home his 15th goal of the season to put Muskegon in front 2-to-1. Williams's goal was assisted by Jacob Guevin and Noah Ellis at 16:49 of the second period
Through 40 minutes of action, the Jacks were in the driver's seat, leading Youngstown by a score of 2-to-1.
3rd Period
While on the power play, Muskegon's Quinn Hutson would fire home his 29th goal of the season to open it up to a 3-to-1 lead for the Lumberjacks at 6:43 of the third period. Hutson's power play goal was assisted by Jack Williams and Jacob Guevin.
With the Youngstown net empty, Parker Lindauer slid the puck into the vacated cage to put the game away for Muskegon at 18:45 of regulation. Lindauer's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Jake Richard to give Muskegon the 4-to-1 lead.
In the end, the Lumberjacks cruised to victory over the Youngstown Phantom by a final score of 4-to-1 to come away with two points in the three-game weekend series.
On Deck
The Lumberjacks will be back on the road for another three-in-three series, this time against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, and Green Bay Gamblers, Friday through Sunday, April 8-10, respectively. Friday's contest will take place in Dubuque, Iowa against the Fighting Saints at 8:05 pm EDT and Saturday's match will take place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against the RoughRiders at 8:05 pm EDT. Sunday's game will be in Green Bay, Wisc. against the Gamblers at 4:05 pm EDT.
