East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The East Texas Pump Jacks return home Thursday and Friday for a two-game homestand after a three-day break for the 2014 TCL All-Star Game, and there's a promotion every night to celebrate!
The series against the Victoria Generals kicks off with Thirsty Thursday, the best way to stay cool in East Texas this summer. Kick back and enjoy discounted frosty beverages with $1 draft beers and 50-cent soft drinks throughout the game.
Friday continues the Pump Jacks 2014 giveaway schedule with Seat Cushion Giveaway Night, presented by Texas Spine & Joint Hospital and CBS 19. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive a free Pump Jacks stadium seat cushion featuring the popular "Boomer eyes" logo. This useful seat cushion will keep you comfortable as you cheer your Pump Jacks to victory, so don't be late!
The Jacks will be primed and ready for a second-half surge following the three-day all-star break. Of course, five Jacks didn't get as much rest as their teammates, since they were honored to participate in the TCL's midsummer classic.
Joe Moroney, Matthew Dickey, Andrew Grifol, Jeremy Hallonquist, and Anthony Gonsolin were members of the North squad in Tuesday's All-Star Game. Along with stars from the Texas Marshals and the host Brazos Valley Bombers, the North all-stars defeated the South by a score of 7-3.
Moroney was selected to start in the game, and he was one of only two players to play the entire contest for the North. The Pump Jacks' leading hitter played right field and was honored with the leadoff position in the batting order. In the bottom of the sixth, Moroney used his lightning speed reaching first and advanced to second on an error by the pitcher.
The remaining four Pump Jacks all represented the Jacks swimmingly as reserves in the All-Star Game.
Dickey and Grifol both entered the game in the sixth inning. While Dickey assumed his natural position in center field, Grifol took the mound as the North's sixth pitcher in the game. Seeing Grifol pitch was a bit of a surprise since the two-way star from UT-Permian Basin was selected as an infielder. Nevertheless, he responded with a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit.
Hallonquist took over for Grifol and pitched the seventh inning for the North.
Gonsolin pinch-hit in the eighth and delivered a single to right that led to another insurance run for the North.
The North got on the board first in the bottom of the first thanks to a home run from the Bombers' G.R. Hinsley. The home team favorite was named the All-Star Game MVP after finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
After two quiet innings the North's offense struck again, tacking on four runs on five hits. The home squad extended the lead to 6-0 with another tally in the sixth inning.
The South remained scoreless until the seventh, plating two runs of their own, followed by another in the eighth.
The Gonsolin-aided run by the North in the bottom of the eighth closed out the scoring.
