Jacks Get Revenge, Topple Bombers 7-1

August 3, 2015 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release

This one was all East Texas.

Offense, defense, and pitching were all on display as the East Texas Pump Jacks powered through the Brazos Valley Bombers for a 7-1 victory on Sunday night.

Starting pitcher Michael Brinska made his second start for East Texas, and held the league's strongest offensive team to a lone run in seven innings. Meanwhile, the Jacks offense gave Brinska an early lead and continued to expand it as the night went on.

The Pump Jacks took a quick 3-0 lead with a rally in the second inning that featured three-straight two-out base hits from the bottom-third of the order.

Tyler Moore drew a one-out walk and moved to second when Colt Pickens grounded out to first base. Hunter Owens extended his hit streak to five games with an RBI single that scored Moore, and moved to second when the throw home came in late. Derek Clemons ripped a 2-2 pitch into left field for an RBI single, and he too advanced to second on the throw. Derek's twin brother Aaron followed with a third consecutive RBI single.

Owens and Derek Clemons struck again in the fourth to give the Jacks a 4-0 lead. Owens scorched a line drive to the left-center field gap for a triple. Derek collected his second RBI of the game when he laced a 1-0 pitch into left field that allowed Owens to walk home and extend the lead.

The Bombers scored their only run on an RBI single in the sixth, but the Jacks answered immediately in the home half of the frame.

Derek Clemons got things started once again with a single, and Aaron Clemons followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out.

Anthony Donovan singled to left field, scoring Derek Clemons, then took a wide turn at first base. When the throw to the plate was cut off, pitcher Andre Shewcraft threw to first in attempt to catch Donovan off the bag. But Shewcraft's throw sailed into right field, allowing Aaron Clemons to score and leaving Donovan at second base.

A wild pitch to Mason Mallard gave Donovan an extra 90 feet, and one out later, Weston Pitts punched a single to right field to make it 7-1.

Brinska set the Bombers down in order in the seventh, and the East Texas bullpen followed suit and retired six in a row to end the game. Drew Robertson struck out one in a hitless eighth inning, and closer Tyler Adams punched out a pair in the ninth to shut the door.

Derek Clemons finished his night 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Aaron Clemons went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Owens also went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and is riding a 9-for-19 streak over his last five games.
