Jacks Fall in Shortened Game Thursday

East Texas PumpJacks News Release

The plan was for the East Texas Pump Jacks to head to Acadiana for a two-game series against the Cane Cutters. 18 innings of baseball between the two teams were scheduled.

The final tally: six innings on Thursday, and nothing on Friday.

The Pump Jacks ended up on the short end of Thursday's game, which was halted in the sixth inning due to weather with the Cane Cutters ahead 3-0. Unceasing rain left Fabacher Field flooded on Friday, forcing the cancellation of tonight's game.

Since the Pump Jacks will not return to Acadiana this season, Friday's game will not be made up.

Thursday's outing was played through a steady rain before conditions deteriorated. The two teams traded baserunners through the first four innings, but neither side was able to push a run across the plate.

The Cane Cutters finally found some success in the fifth. They led off with a pair of singles and got on the scoreboard with the help of a few wild pitches. All-star outfielder Connor Barron then drove a two-run home run to left to give the Cutters a 3-0 lead.

East Texas put two runners on base in the sixth inning but couldn't muster enough for a rally. Connor Huesers led off with a single and two outs later stole second. Raymond Pedrina walked, bringing the tying run to the plate in the person of Connor Hornsby. But Hornsby lofted a pop fly through the raindrops to end the inning, and the umpires decided they had seen enough of the foul weather.

All-star Jeremy Hallonquist took the loss despite opening the game with four shutout innings of work. He finished with three earned runs in five innings with four strikeouts.

Huesers, Hornsby, and James Lear posted hits for the Jacks. Huesers, Lear, and Joe Moroney each stole a base as well.

With the truncated series completed and the team headed home, the Pump Jacks can now turn their attention to the weekend series against the Victoria Generals at historic Driller Park.

The weekend begins with Bark in the Park on Saturday, when fans can bring their dogs to the ballpark! That's right, no need to leave your dog at home, because the pooch can join you for the Pump Jacks game. We'll have a section for dogs and their owners, even a pool for dogs to cool off in.

Sunday is Family Night presented by the Longview News-Journal. Fans can get four Grandstand tickets for just $10, with the option of adding four meals for $15 more.
