Philadelphia Force News Release
The Series
It all comes down to this as the Force host the USSSA Pride in the most important five game series of the 2009 season. The top three teams have been decided for the NPF Championship series, and now it is down to the Pride and the Force to see who will be heading to Akron, and who will be staying home.
What Just Happened
In their last five game outing the Force went 2-for-3 against the third place Rockford Thunder at ECTB. The Force started the series off with a 1-0 victory on an RBI single from Jami Lobpries. After that the Thunder pulled out three straight, before the Force were able to take the series finale by the score of 2-0. Leading the Force to that huge win were Emily Friedman and Kristin Erb.
Team Leaders
Clare Burnum continues to lead the Force's offense this summer. Having played and started in all 29 games this season, Burnum has a team high .298 average. In 84 at-bats she has totaled 25 hits, three doubles, eight runs scored, and 10 RBI's. Next in line is Lobpries with a .279 average, and a team high 13 runs scored. She also has 19 hits, two doubles, one triple, three home runs and six RBI's to her name as well.
Also in the top five hitters are DeAnn Justice (.264), Emily Friedman (.247), and Megan Gibson (.233). The trio has a combined 25 runs scored, 64 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, and 38 RBI's respectively. Gibson and Justice continue to lead the team in home runs with five, while Justice also leads the Force in doubles with six.
In the circle, Erb has shown continued improvement in her most recent starts. Currently sitting with a 2.36 ERA, Erb has thrown a team high 65 1/3 innings and has compiled 31 strikeouts. Gibson leads the team with a 2.25 ERA, while Jessica Sallinger has proven to be the strikeout queen with 36 K's on the season.
A Look Ahead If the Force can pull out the win's they need then they will be packing their bags and heading to Akron, Ohio for the 2009 NPF Championship Series at Firestone Stadium. This year's championship begins on August 19th and runs all the way through the 23rd.
