Isles End Regular Season Tonight in Dayton
August 17, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
DAYTON, Ohio "" The Dayton Dutch Lions rallied to claim the eighth and final place in the USL PRO Playoffs with a 3-1 victory against the Harrisburg City Islanders at Beavercreek Stadium on Saturday night.
The Dutch Lions trailed at the half due to a second-minute goal by Coady Andrews from a corner, but came close to tying the game before the halftime break as they hit the post and had a shot cleared off the line. Dayton would finally get back on even terms in the 56th minute as Eli Garner found the back of the net, and six minutes later Gibson Bardsley would score what would prove the game-winning goal.
Brandon Swartzendruber added a third in the 69th minute as the Dutch Lions left the City Islanders to hold fourth position in the final league standings, and host the Charlotte Eagles in the quarterfinals of the USL PRO Playoffs next Saturday. The Dutch Lions' seeding is to be determined, with Dayton finishing seventh should the LA Blues fall to the Rochester Rhinos, and eighth should the Blues earn a point in the final game of the season.
