Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA (July 8, 2016) - After returning from the western front of the state, City Islanders FC will return to Lancaster for a pair of critical games in Clipper Magazine Stadium on Friday, July 8 and Sunday, July 10. Lancaster has been good to the Islanders this year. Both of their matches this season and last were high scoring affairs that helped the Islanders build momentum and string together wins. This season City has scored five goals in their two victories in Clipper Magazine Stadium. City was able to get their first points in league play in over a month with a scoreless draw in the first leg of the Keystone Derby Cup in Pittsburgh. The Islanders showed resilience by not conceding a late goal after Dante Leverock was sent off late in the game, which put them down to 10 men. The deadlock was a break from the norm for the two rivals. Last year they had a few games that had over five total goals. It was the first time in three games that City failed to tally a goal. The first match on Friday will put the Isles against one of their longest rivals, the Richmond Kickers. Richmond took the first game in the season series 3-1. In past years City and Richmond have played in some of the most exciting and competitive matches in the club's history. The Kickers are currently fighting for the eighth and final spot in the playoffs race. In their last three game Richmond has failed to find the quality of play to put the ball into the back of the net. Their most recent outing was a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Charleston Battery. They last scored almost a month ago when they exploded for three goals in Pittsburgh. City will return to the pitch just a day later to take on Toronto FC for the second time in Clipper Magazine Stadium this season. Even though the first game was 2-1 it was a game the Islanders had dominated from start to finish. Both Paul Wilson and Aaron Wheeler tallied goals in the match. Toronto FC is tied with the Islanders in the points, but sit a spot behind in the standings. Toronto, like Richmond and the Islanders, is also facing a winless streak that was extended to five games after a 3-0 loss in Wilmington on Saturday. Toronto has had only one positive result in their last 11 games. The Islanders have an opportunity to get back into a contested playoff race with wins this weekend against two teams who have been struggling as of late. Following the games in Lancaster, City will return to the road for two matches against Pennsylvania teams, including the second leg of the Keystone Derby Cup on Sunday, July 17.
