Islanders Look for First Points of the Season in Orlando
April 14, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA (April 14, 2016) - Due to the postponement of the first leg of the Keystone Derby Cup it has been two weeks since City Islanders FC have seen the pitch in a competitive nature. They will get back on track this weekend when they take on USL newcomer Orlando City B in Titan Soccer Complex this Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m.
The two week break comes after City failed to pick up any points in their first two contests against Richmond and Charlotte. The Kickers bested the Islanders by two goals, while Charlotte squeaked out a one-goal win after a hot start by Craig Foster who scored just minutes into the match.
Even though this will be the first meeting between Orlando City B and the City Islanders, it is not the first time these two franchises have faced each other. In 2014 the Islanders snuck into the playoffs as an eightseed and faced top-seeded Orlando in the first round. City shocked the league with a 1-0 win on their way to an improbable run all the way to the USL Championship game.
City has played their entire season thus far in hostile territory and have only managed two goals in those contests. Jose Barril scored the first goal of the 2016 campaign in Richmond and Foster tacked on the only other goal against Charlotte.
Orlando, who is one of the six new teams to the USL, has only managed one point in their first three games. Their only positive result came on the road against Charleston in a scoreless draw. At home, they are currently winless and have only managed two goals, while giving up six.
City will open up with their first home match of the season at FNB Field, Harrisburg against Louisville FC on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. Arrive early and be part of the Islanders historic first night at FNB Field. Pregame activities include a pregame show and ribbon cutting ceremony set to begin at 6:10 p.m. Additionally, fans will receive a special edition Capital BlueCross insulated water koozie.
All fans are welcome to join the Islanders this Sunday, April 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Grain + Verse Bottlehouse for their annual home opener kickoff party! Meet the team, coaches and front office staff all while playing games, winning prizes and picking up your home opener tickets!
