Jamestown Ironmen News Release
Your Jamestown Ironmen split a two game series with the Tomahawks in Johnstown this past weekend in North American Hockey League action.
Jamestown was shutout on Friday night, as the Tomahawks cruised to a 5-0 victory. Ironmen goaltender, Reid Mimmack allowed five goals in the loss and was pulled partway through the third period. The Ironmen were outshot, 33-19 on the night.
"Johnstown is one of the best teams in the league; they play hard, have good goaltending and are well coached," explained Ironmen head coach Dan Daikawa. "They had a huge crowd out there, and we never got on track Friday night."
That wasn't the end of the story as Jamestown battled back and returned the favor with a 1-0 shutout victory on Saturday to even the weekend series with the Tomahawks. Reid Mimmack bounced back with an outstanding performance in goal, making 37 saves en route to his third shutout of the season.
The game stood scoreless until Nico Sierra turned on the scoreboard with an Ironmen goal 8:11 into the third period with assists coming from Tyler Dunagan and Dylan Zink. Sierra has four goals and four assists in eight games with the Ironmen after being acquired through trade in mid-November.
"Both goaltenders played very well on Saturday," said Daikawa. "We got a huge break with Nico's goal. They had a few late opportunities but we did a great job of shutting the door on them to hold on to the win."
Johnstown managed to outshoot the Ironmen again on Saturday, 37-31, yet Jamestown netted the only goal of the game and walked away with two points to keep pace in the NAHL North Division.
The Ironmen are now at the halfway point of the 2012-13 season with 19 wins, already matching their total from last season. Jamestown (19-8-3) is tied for first in the North Division and is ready to return home after a six-game road trip.
The Ironmen will host the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings (19-10-1) at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena this weekend with games set for Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 5pm.
Notes: Anyone who donates a toy on their way into the Ironmen game this weekend to help support "ËToys for Tots' will receive a $2 discount on their ticket to the game. There will be a toy collection bin at the Jamestown Arena's Box Office for both Friday and Saturday's games.
