New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Monday, November 3, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen announced the return of four familiar faces to the Ironmen roster today as reigning Rookie of the Year Frederico Moojen, midfielder Tiguinho, goalkeeper Lé Clembo do Carmo and defender Matt Maher have inked deals to stay with the club for their sophomore campaign. The Ironmen will open their second season on Sunday, December 14th, when they host the Chicago Storm at Prudential Center.

"This group of players is the core of players from our first year that will lead the way into the future for the Ironmen," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi stated. "Not only are they young, but they are quality players, making them much more attractive to keep here for the long-term."

Winning awards was nothing new to Moojen when he took home the MISL Rookie of the Year award last season. Following a pair of seasons at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, Moojen was twice named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year. In his two years suiting up for the Railsplitters, he tallied 48 goals and 109 points and was named the 2005 LMU Male Athlete of the Year. His 23 goals in 2005 ranked first in the nation, and his 51 points were second in the country. His solid output led LMU to their first-ever regular season conference championship that season. The following year, the Brazilian striker transferred to Clemson University and tallied 24 points, including 11 goals.

While attending college, Moojen also played two seasons for the Cocoa (Florida) Expos of the USL Premier Development League (PDL). In 2004 he registered ten goals and three assists during his first season with the club, and he led the PDL in goals (18) and points (43) during his second year. In 2006 he was named the PDL Most Valuable Player after recording 18 goals for the Augusta Fireball, winning the league Goal Scoring Championship. In three seasons in the PDL, he tallied 46 goals.

"Freddy was a very good first-year player last season, leading to him winning the Rookie of the Year award," Namazi said. "He has a lot of upside, and I think he has only scratched the surface of how good he will be. I look for a lot of great things still to come from him."

Brazilian midfielder Tiguinho was selected by the Ironmen in the 2007 MISL Supplemental Draft, signed as a Discovery Player from Rio de Janeiro. In 20 regular season matches last year, he tallied 16 points on six goals and four assists. He also added eight blocks to his rookie campaign.

Lé Clembo do Carmo was taken by the Ironmen in the fourth round of the 2007 MISL Supplemental Draft after spending the previous season playing for the Brazilian club A.A.B.B./SegaSP, a member of the Key B Group of the Metropolitano Championship. Playing in four games last season, including a pair of starts, Lé recorded 21 saves.

Maher, a native of Cape May Court House, New Jersey, was a 1st Team All-South Jersey selection as a junior and 3rd Team All-State selection his final two seasons at Middle Township High School. He tallied 32 goals and 17 assists during his high school career, earning himself a scholarship to Temple University. He was a four-year starter for the Owls while also playing three seasons for the Ocean City Barons of the PDL. After spending the following year playing with the Carolina RailHawks of USL-1, the Ironmen selected Maher second overall in the 2007 MISL College Draft. During his 2007-08 rookie season, he registered a goal and an assist in 13 games.
