Ironmen Forward Adauto Named Offensive Player Of The Month
Newark, N.J. (Wednesday, March 4, 2009) - For the second month in a row, the New Jersey Ironmen have a player named the Xtreme Soccer League Offensive Player of the Month. The team was notified today by league officials that forward Adauto Neto takes the honors for the month of February after teammate Lucio Gonzaga received the nod for January.
"Neto has continued to work hard, and his qualities have really begun to shine through," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented about his Brazilian forward. "He is an outstanding player with a lot of ability. You couldn't keep him quiet for too long."
Neto moved into a second-place tie for the XSL points lead with 29 overall after recording six goals and six assists in the month of February. After being slowed by a hamstring injury earlier this season, the Brazilian striker has really started to come into his own as of late.
"I'm feeling more comfortable and in better shape now," Neto stated after receiving word of his Offensive Player of the Month selection. "I just try to do my best every time I step onto the field, and now is when it counts. I will always work hard and do my best, and I will continue to give everything I can to help our team win."
On the season, Neto has tallied a well-balanced 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. Earlier this season, the 2005-06 league MVP knocked in the 100th regular season goal of his career, and he has notched a grand total of 116 scores and 81 assists in his decorated career, including the postseason. He still has a lot of soccer ahead of him, as he is currently playing is just in his sixth season of service to the indoor game.
Neto keeps a two-month streak rolling for the Ironmen receiving XSL Offensive Player of the Month accolades. Lucio was the previous winner after recording 28 points in January. Other players receiving league acknowledgement in their respective position today were Chicago Storm defender Fabinho and Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg.
After a thrilling golden goal in sudden death overtime by veteran midfielder Goran Vasic lifted the Ironmen past the Detroit Ignition last Saturday, New Jersey remains on the road for their next two matches before returning to Prudential Center on Sunday, March 22nd, to host the Milwaukee Wave. Serving as honorary captain for that game will be former Cosmos captain Werner Roth. Following that match-up, the team will be hosting the 2009 New York Senior Boys All-Star Showcase in collaboration with Big Apple Soccer, featuring some talented All-Stars from the state of New York. The Ironmen then return to the Rock that Friday, March 27th, to host the Detroit Ignition. Playing the role of honorary captain for that match will be five-time MLS Cup Champion Jeff Agoos. Tickets start at only $10 and can be purchased today by calling 1-800-IRONMEN.
