New Jersey Ironmen News Release
NEWARK, NJ (February 3, 2008)- The New Jersey Ironmen (10-9) came to play today, hosting the first place Milwaukee Wave (14-6) at Prudential Center. In what was a highly-contested match up, the Ironmen effort would be just short of a big win, and the club fell by a score of 9-6.
After a hard fought 13:43, Ryan Johnson booted a left-footed ball past Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Vorberg for the first goal of the game. The feed came from Seton Hall graduate Gordon Kljestan, giving the Ironmen a 2-0 lead going into the second quarter.
Wave midfielder Marcelo Fontana scored a Guiliano Oliviero assist at 7:44 of the second frame to equalize for Milwaukee, and the two clubs would eventually head to the locker room knotted up at two apiece.
The second half started horribly for New Jersey with a misplayed ball resulting in an own goal beyond the three-point arc 28 seconds into the half. Midfielder Jonathan Santos was credited with the goal. Troy Dusosky then finished a Marcio Leite feed at 4:00, and the Wave extended the advantage to 9-2 at 6:17 when forward Anthony Maher scored a Chico ball. Midfielder Tim O'Neill, New Jersey's newest Ironman, pounded home a rebound at 14:07 for his first points as a member of the Ironmen, and New Jersey trailed 9-4 heading into the final frame.
At 6:19 of the fourth stanza, defender John Krause pulled the Ironmen within three points, 9-6, by sending home a Johnson assist.
While the loss may be the fourth in a row for New Jersey, the Ironmen proved that they have a lot of fight left in them this season. The club takes does not play again until February 16 in Baltimore.
