Ironmen Add Brooklyn Native Oral Bullen

New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Wednesday, November 12, 2008) - As the New Jersey Ironmen edge closer to their season opener on December 14th at Prudential Center, the second-year club continues to strengthen their veteran roster. The team announced today that Brooklyn native Oral Bullen has signed a deal for the 2008-09 season, bringing additional experience to an already accomplished group of players.

"Oral is capable of playing a few positions and has great speed in transition," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented. "He brings a lot to the table and has the ability to shut down the other team's best and most creative player."

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Bullen was one of the top scorers in school history when he played at the University of Massachusetts. He served as captain of the Minutemen during both his junior and senior seasons and finished his collegiate career with 54 points in 75 games. His 21 goals and 12 assists placed him just outside the UMass all-time top ten points list. The two-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection helped lead the Minutemen to two A-10 tournament berths, and he was also honored as an NSCAA/adidas All-New England Second Team selection following his junior year.

Bullen first played in the professional ranks as a member of the Portland Timbers in 2006. He registered a pair of goals and an assist for the USL-1 side, once earning Team of the Week accolades. He took his game indoors for the first time in 2006 for the Milwaukee Wave, tallying seven points (two goals, three assists) and five blocks in 18 matches. He followed up that performance last season in Milwaukee with eight points (goal, six assists) and 21 blocks, showing his durability by missing only a single contest.

The addition of Bullen gives even more experience to talented crew of veterans for the 2008-09 Ironmen club, something that has Namazi anticipating the season opener next month.

"When you compare this roster to last year, we are much more experienced and younger," he said. "We've been able to bring in players with experience in this league, and they are still in the prime of their career. I'm excited about the prospects and possibilities of what the team can achieve this season."

The New Jersey Ironmen will open up preseason training on Monday, December 1, and the club has two open tryouts planned over the next month. The club will host a tryout on Sunday, November 16, at Soccer Centers in Somerset from 8:30-10:00 p.m. and at Turf City in Wayne on Saturday, November 22, slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. Players interested in attending open tryouts must pre-register by calling Gioia DiFlumeri, Ironmen Operations Manager, at 973-757-6303.
