Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Iron announced today the signing of former Arena Football League standout and af2 defensive coordinator Cedric Walker as an assistant coach. Walker worked under Landsee with the Green Bay Blizzard in 2009 and looks to make the Iron defense the best in Arena Football One.

"We are excited to add Cedric Walker to our coaching staff. He was a standout defensive back in the Arena Football League for over 10 years and his four years of coaching experience in af2 will help us tremendously on and off the field," said Iron head coach Bob Landsee. "We are looking forward to a great season led by our experienced coaching staff. Our two assistant coaches, Coach Stoute and Coach Walker, have over 30 years of combined experience in Arena Football - they know the game inside and out and we are very fortunate to have them here in Milwaukee with the Iron."

Walker comes to the Iron after spending the 2009 season in the af2 with the Green Bay Blizzard where he grooved the Green Bay defense into allowing the seventh lowest average points per game, most sacks and sixth fewest touchdowns in the af2.

In 2008, Walker was the head coach of the Tri-Cities Fever where his defense ranked fifth in the af2. His first stint as a head coach came in 2007 when he became the head coach of the Everett Hawks for their first season after moving from the NIFL to af2. That season his defense ranked third in the af2 and finished with an 8-8 record, going 5-3 at home as well as being the only af2 expansion team to make an appearance in the playoffs. He also has coaching experience with the Bakersfield Blitz of the af2, where his defense finished the season ranked best in the league in 2006.

Prior to his coaching career, Walker spent 10 seasons in the Arena Football League as a defensive back. In 1997, as a member of the Arizona Rattlers, Walker set an ArenaBowl record with 11.5 tackles en route to winning his first ArenaBowl. He ranks third all-time in the AFL with 612.5 total tackles in addition to his 84 pass blocks, 23 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and 12 fumble recoveries. In 2006 he retired from the AFL and pursued a career in coaching.

Walker attended Stephen F. Austin State University where he was named an All-American in four consecutive seasons. He currently ranks fourth all-time in the NCAA for career interceptions.

The Milwaukee Iron have ascended to the highest level of Arena Football as a member of Arena Football One. Downtown Milwaukee and the Bradley Center will come alive in 2010 as the Iron host legendary Arena Football League opponents such as the Arizona Rattlers, Cleveland Gladiators, Iowa Barnstormers, Orlando Predators and more.

Iron season tickets are currently on sale, starting as low as $50.
