THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Ice remains in second place in the East Division with a 5-3-1 record and trails first place Cedar Rapids (6-1-1) by two points with a big game in Cedar Rapids this weekend. The home ice of the Pepsi Coliseum has been one of the main reasons for the club's early success as Indiana is 4-0-1in its five home games. On the other hand, the road has not been as kind to the Icemen as the team is 1-3-0 in its four road contests.
"MAC" ATTACK: Forward Todd McIlrath enters this week's play on the heels of a team season-high five-game point streak which includes 11 points (3G, 8A). McIlrath, who currently leads the Ice in scoring with 13 points on the year, is the centerman of one of the USHL's most potent lines at the moment which also includes wingers Tomas Klempa and Ryan Peckskamp. Overall, the trio have erupted for 30 points (13G, 17A) in the team's first nine games.
LIFE BECKONS: After a scoreless first year with Danville in the USHL last season, defenseman Mike Beck has arrived in year two as an offensive producer back at the blue line. His outstanding play has placed him in the USHL league leaders among defensemen in several categories. He enters this week's action second in points (8) and assists (6) and is tied for first with two power play goals. He enjoyed his best performance of the season Saturday evening with a three-point effort in the loss at Green Bay.
HOT BLOODED: Tomas Klempa has points in five of his last six games (5G, 5A)...Mike Beck has eight points (2G, 6A) in his last five games...Brian Gifford has four points (2G, 2A) in his last three games...Eddie Del Grosso is second among USHL d-men with a (+7) plus/minus.
TEAM TIDINGS: The Ice is 5-1-1 against its East Division foes...Indiana has eight power play goals in its last five games and ranks second overall in the USHL on the power play (9-47, 19.1%)...The Ice is tenth in the league on the penalty kill (37-45, 82.2%)...Indiana is second in the league in goals/game (3.67), but tenth in goals against/game (3.33).
THE IOWA CAUCUS: A tough weekend looms ahead for the Indiana Ice as the team travels to the state of Iowa for games with third place Waterloo (4-3-1) and first place Cedar Rapids (6-1-1). Indiana defeated Waterloo 4-2 in the club's home opener, while Cedar Rapids knocked off the Ice in a shootout 6-5 back on October 17th.
