Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

The Iowa Barnstormers were creative against the Milwaukee Iron on Saturday night at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field at Wells Fargo Arena, scoring four touchdowns in four different ways to begin what ended up as a 69-37 Barnstormers victory.

After falling on a loose ball in the end zone on the opening kick, Iowa scored on a rush, an interception return, and a pass, helping them take a 28-14 second quarter lead and set the tempo for a high scoring affair.

Eventually, the Barnstormers (10-4) ran out of unique ways to put up six points, but that didn't stop them from scoring. Dusty Kain, whose fumble recovery gave Iowa the early lead, hauled in two first half touchdown passes from Brian Villanueva and finished the game with six catches for 66 yards. Villanueva passed for 179 yards with two touchdowns.

The Iron (5-9) kept pace with the Barnstormers early on, answering a 14-0 Iowa lead with two touchdown strikes of their own as Todd Hammel found Antoine Burns and Bryan Pray for scores to tie the game at 14. After two more Barnstormers touchdowns, Hammel hooked up with Pray from over 40 yards for a second time to cut the lead to seven. Hammel threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns in a losing effort.

Kain's second touchdown reception of the half was followed by a Chris Gould field goal for the Iron, putting the score at 35-24 going into the half.

It was all Iowa in the third quarter, who added a pair of Jeff Glas field goals and a Tanner Vanner interception return to take a 48-24 lead. The Barnstormers found one more way to score in the fourth quarter, this time on a Brent Curvey fumble return, giving them their third defensive touchdown of the game.

Both teams added a couple touchdowns each in the final quarter, Scott Burnoski and Pray finding the end zone for the Iron, and Villanueva and Tommy Ellingworth for the Barnstormers. Pray finished the game with six catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns.

With the win, the Barnstormers earned their second victory over the Iron in as many tries this season. Iowa has won seven of its last eight contests, including three straight victories. The Barnstormers improved to 5-2 at home while knocking the Iron to a 3-4 mark on the road.

Both teams will face division rivals on the road next week, as the Iron travel to Green Bay to take on the Blizzard on 7/17 and the Barnstormers face the Steamwheelers in Quad City on 7/18.
