The International League announced today that Toledo outfielder Brent Clevlen and Syracuse pitcher Scott Richmond have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher-of-the-Week for the All-Star break-shortened period from July 14-20.

BRENT CLEVLEN, Toledo Mud Hens IL BATTER OF THE WEEK One day after the 2007 Triple-A All-Star Game, Toledo outfielder Brent Clevlen smashed two home runs and surged to the IL Batter of the Week Award. Exactly one year later, he has done it again. This week Clevlen hit .400, smashed three homers, and scored a League-best six runs in four games. This time around he was without the benefit of rest during the break, as Clevlen started and went 1-4 for the International League at the Triple-A All-Star Game Wednesday. He followed that by homering twice Thursday in Pawtucket, his first time going deep since June 20. Clevlen would add one more blast Sunday as part of a 3-4 effort that helped the Mud Hens earn a split of the four-game series against the IL's winningest team. The performance raised his batting average to .302 (7th in the IL). He is also near the top of the circuit in RBI (T-3rd) and slugging percentage (5th).

24-year-old Brent Clevlen is in his seventh season in the Tigers organization. His first action above the Double-A level came in 2006 when he played in 31 games with the Tigers (hitting .282). Last season, hampered by pain from a broken ring finger, he hit just .220 in 90 games for Toledo and .100 in 13 games with Detroit. Clevlen is a native of Austin, TX.

SCOTT RICHMOND, Syracuse Chiefs IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK Right-hander Scott Richmond, in his first year of affiliated professional baseball, was 5-8 with a 4.92 ERA for Double-A New Hampshire in late June when he was given a chance to pitch at the Triple-A level following the promotion of Syracuse ace John Parrish to Toronto. In his first three starts Richmond allowed just five earned runs, but his record was 0-2 as the Chiefs scored a total of one run in those three games. Thursday night against IL South-leading Durham, Richmond was brilliant, but it would be the Chiefs bullpen that let him down this time. Richmond blanked the Bulls for 7.0 innings, allowing only three hits with no walks while striking out a season-high 10 batters. With Syracuse leading 1-0, Durham scored four times against the Syracuse bullpen in the top of the 8th, robbing Richmond of his first Triple-A win as the Bulls held on for a 4-1 victory. Certainly Richmond has been better for the Chiefs than his 0-2 record indicates. He has held opposing hitters to a .192 average, compiling 24 strikeouts and just 3 walks in 27.0 innings.

28-year-old Scott Richmond was signed by the Blue Jays as a free agent this past offseason. After two seasons pitching at Oklahoma State University, Richmond signed with Edmonton of the independent Northern League, where he went 14-19 with a 4.37 ERA in three years. Richmond is a native of North Vancouver, Canada.
