Published on May 25, 2009 under International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Columbus outfielder Jordan Brown and Durham pitcher Wade Davis have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 18-24. Both Brown and Davis are the second members of their respective clubs to win an IL weekly award this season, following Columbus' Matt LaPorta (April 20-26) and Durham's Chris Richard (May 11-17).

JORDAN BROWN, Columbus Clippers IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Columbus outfielder Jordan Brown banged out a League-best 14 hits this week to help his Columbus Clippers pull out in front of the IL West Division race. Brown was at or near the top of the League in several other offensive categories for the week, posting a .519 batting average (2nd), 3 home runs

(T-2nd), 7 RBI (T-3rd), 6 runs scored (T-4th), 6 extra-base hits (T-1st), and a 1.000 slugging percentage (T-1st). He hit safely in all six games, including two three-hit performances and a 4-4 effort yesterday at Buffalo. Among his hits Sunday were two solo home runs, giving him his first multi-homer game of the season. Brown now owns the 3rd-best batting average in the International League (.368) as well as the 3rd-best slugging percentage (.654). His 23 extra-base hits are tied for 3rd in the IL.

25-year-old Jordan Brown has played his entire professional career in the Cleveland organization. He was selected by the Indians in the 4th round of the 2005 draft, and two years later he was named MVP of the Double-A Eastern League (.333, 11 HR, 76 RBI). The 2008 season was his first at the Triple-A level, as he hit .281 with 7 HR and 51 RBI in 109 games with Buffalo. Brown is a native of Walnut City, California.

WADE DAVIS, Durham Bulls IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Right-hander Wade Davis did not allow an earned run in either of his two victories this week, helping his Durham Bulls stay close in the IL South Division race. Last Monday Davis took the hill against Rochester and was the star of a pitching duel that saw the Bulls win 1-0. Davis allowed just two hits and a walk in 6.2 innings while striking out three in a game that lasted less than two hours. Yesterday afternoon at Lehigh Valley, Davis came up big again, surrendering only an unearned run in 6.2 innings of work as Durham went on to win 6-2. The victory improves his record to 5-1 on the season, just one win shy of the League leader (Gwinnett's Charlie Morton).

23-year-old Wade Davis is rated by Baseball America as the #3 prospect in the Tampa Bay farm system, while MiLB.com rates him as the #31 prospect overall. The former Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Year made his Triple-A debut during the second half of the 2008 season, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.72 ERA in nine starts for Durham. He also won the clinching game for the Bulls in the Governors' Cup semi-finals. Davis is a native of Lake Wales, Florida.
