Interleague Contests Highlight Weekend Schedule
Published on June 20, 2014 under United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - A busy weekend of action in USL PRO is highlighted by four interleague contests that see three sides currently in the USL PRO playoff positions set to face off against MLS Reserve League opposition. Sacramento, Orange County and Wilmington will all try to boost their playoff position as they welcome Colorado, Chivas USA and Chicago.
Republic FC is also set to open its new home at Bonney Field on Friday night with the visit of the Rapids Reserves in a game set to kick off at 10:30 p.m. ET. Sacramento fell in its last outing against OKC Energy FC last Saturday, and will be eager to bounce back and have a chance to return to a top-four position.
Orange County, meanwhile, welcomes Chivas USA Reserves to Anteater Stadium on Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET having won three of its past four contests. The Blues' run of form has moved them into seventh at the halfway point of their season, one point behind the Hammerheads, who host the Chicago Fire Reserves at Legion Stadium on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET. Wilmington is currently on a seven-game undefeated streak in league play, and with multiple games in hand on each of the five teams above it in the standings the Hammerheads will be eager to gain ground in the race for a top-three berth.
Elsewhere on the schedule, both Arizona United and OKC Energy FC will look to maintain their playoff push as they host the LA Galaxy II and Rochester Rhinos. Arizona fell 2-1 to the Galaxy's MLS side in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, and will face Los Dos on Saturday night aiming to stay in contention for a playoff place. OKC, meanwhile, was buoyed by its win against Sacramento last Saturday, and will welcome the Rhinos on Sunday with a chance to extend its four-game undefeated streak.
Other games to watch include Saturday night's clash between the Charlotte Eagles and Charleston Battery at the Queens Sports Complex, and Sunday's game between the Richmond Kickers at Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium.
