Bloomington Edge News Release

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Edge kept the game close but could not regain the lead throughout the second half in a 47-44 loss to the Kansas City Renegades on Friday in Champions Professional Indoor Football League play at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Edge fell to 4-5 with the defeat while the Renegades improved to 5-4. The Edge were plagued by four interceptions of Andre Brown passes and five missed conversion attempts.

The Edge scored on the first possession of the game on the first of three Andre Raymond touchdown runs, but the Renegades countered on their opening possession to take a 7-6 lead after one quarter. Brown's one-yard keeper on the first play of the second quarter put the Edge ahead 12-7, but the advantage would be their final lead of the game. Marcus Lewis caught the first of his three touchdown passes on a 14-yard strike with 1:06 remaining before halftime to cut the Kansas City lead to 21-19 at the break, but Renegade Damond Berry ran the second half kickoff back 37 yards for a score to keep the Edge at bay. The Edge cut the deficit to two points once and three points three times but could never regain the lead. The Edge drove into Renegade territory with the final three-point deficit in the game's final minute, but Kansas City recorded the final interception of the game in their end zone and ran out the clock.

Brown was 23-of-39 through the air with three touchdowns for 207 yards with four interceptions. Raymond caught nine passes for 54 yards and Lewis recorded six receptions for 67 yards including his three touchdowns. Renegade quarterback Chris Coffin was 13-of-23 for 166 yards with one interception and three touchdowns.

The Edge ran 59 offensive plays to just 33 for the Renegades and outgained Kansas City in total offense 234-193. The Edge also had a 23-12 advantage in first downs and had possession almost 16 minutes more than the guests.

The Edge are next in action in their final home game of the season next Friday at 7:05 p.m. hosting the Omaha Beef. A post-game concert by popular local band Brushfire is included in the game ticket.
