Indoor Football League Week 15 Preview

June 16, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

FRIDAY, JUNE 19 - SIOUX CITY BANDITS (3-8) @ SAGINAW STING (3-10), 7:05 PM

The Sting play host to the Bandits in the last game of their regular season this Friday. Sioux City has been impressive as of late, especially last week against the playoff bound Fairbanks Grizzlies. In that win, the Bandit O-line created rushing lanes all game allowing Scott Jensen, Willie Edwards, Tasmine Knockum, and Ken Wilson to combine for 165 rushing yards.

Saginaw comes into this game fresh off a bye week. The players and coaching staff are hoping to put together a strong effort to start the off-season on a promising note. With a solid foundation of players, such as RB Ruben Gay, the Sting certainly will be a team to watch in 2010.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 - SAN ANGELO STAMPEDE EXPRESS (3-7) @ OMAHA BEEF (8-3), 7:05 PM

The Stampede Express make the rare trip outside of the State of Texas to take on the Central Division leading Beef. San Angelo is still very much in the playoff race with two spots left in the Lone Star Division. QB Sonny Cumbie will look to put the team on his back as they chase the Hammerheads and Ruff Riders. The QB has thrown for 24 TD passes so far this season.

Despite their 2-point loss to Wichita last week, the Beef still hold a ½ game lead over Bloomington for first place in the central division. Omaha is lead by League MVP Candidate James McNear. The QB has thrown for 30 touchdowns this season and rushed for 11 more.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 - FAIRBANKS GRIZZLIES (5-6) @ SIOUX FALLS STORM (4-8), 7:05 PM

The Grizzlies invade the Storm Shelter to take on the dangerous Sioux Falls Storm this Saturday. Fairbanks hopes to snap their current three game losing streak and inch closer to securing a first round home playoff game. Lonnie Sanders should play a big part in this contest. The WR has averaged over 5 catches per game and has hauled in 21 TD passes this season.

This is a must win game for the Storm in their hopes of reaching the post-season. A loss or Wichita win would eliminate them from contention. QB Terrance Bryant and RB Sean Treasure will not let this team give up however, and you can be sure that the duo will have their team ready to play this weekend.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 - ABILENE RUFF RIDERS (6-4) @ CORPUS CHRISTI HAMMERHEADS (5-6), 7:05 PM

The IFL Game of the Week is a Lone Star Division battle with large playoff implications. A win and an Express loss would guarantee a spot for Abilene in the post-season. A Hammerheads victory would get them to just a ½ game behind Abilene for 2nd in the Division. Both squads tout impressive defensive back tandems that seem to have a knack for getting to the ball. Joey Longoria (9 INT) and Henry Russell (2 INT) have helped the Ruff Riders accumulate a +10 turnover margin. Hammerhead DB's Wali Munin (5 INT) and Jason Lee (5 INT) have blanketed receivers all season causing much unpleasantries to opposing QB's.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 - MARYLAND MANIACS (10-2) @ BLOOMINGTON EXTREME (9-4), 7:05 PM

Two of the hottest teams in the league in Maryland and Bloomington square off in Illinois for this much anticipated match-up. The Maniacs have rattled off ten straight wins since beginning the year 0-2 and can clinch the Division title and first round bye with a W this weekend. RB Darryl Overton averages 4.8 yards per carry and has found the endzone 14 times this season.

The Extreme are coming off a defensive battle against RiverCity last week and currently sit just ½ game behind Omaha for the lead in the Central Division. Laroche Jackson has heard his name called many times this season. The DB/KR has 9INT's on defense, 2 KR for touchdowns, and a missed FG TD.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 - COLORADO ICE (5-7) @ BILLINGS OUTLAWS (11-1), 7:05 PM

Colorado heads into hostile territory to face their Pacific Division rival Billings this weekend. This will be a big test for the playoff bound Ice, who would have to go through the Outlaws to have a shot at the United Bowl trophy come the post-season. LB Ryan Palmer, who averages over 5 tackles and a ½ sack per game, hopes to slow down the potent Outlaw offense.

The Outlaws have been an unstoppable force since suffering their only loss of the season to Omaha on April 18th. Three-time IFL Offensive Player of the Week Chris Dixon has been driving teams crazy with his passing and scrambling ability. In total he has 60 passing TD's and 10 rushing scores.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 - EL PASO GENERALS (8-2) @ RIVERCITY RAGE (8-4), 7:30 PM

El Paso ventures out of Texas to battle RiverCity in what promises to be an offensive battle. The Generals clinched a spot in the playoffs last weekend by defeating Colorado. In that game IFL MVP candidate Tommy Jones threw for 278 yards and four scores. He has benefitted from an O-Line that has allowed just six sacks all season.

The Rage come into this game in second place in the Atlantic Division and hope to hold off a charging Rochester team to insure a first round home playoff game. WR Hurtis Chinn has been a catalyst for the Rage Offense averaging 6 catches per game, and racking up 650 receiving yards.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 -ALASKA WILD (0-10) @ ROCHESTER RAIDERS (6-4), 7:35 PM

Alaska makes the long journey east to take on Rochester for the second game of a home and home series. The Wild would love to play the role of spoilers while also building momentum for next season. IFL MVP candidate Demarcus James is one of those can't miss prospects teams dream of. The DB/KR has returned 7 kickoffs for touchdowns this season.

The Raiders have proven to the rest of the IFL that they will be a tough team come playoff time. They have a solid shot at over taking RiverCity for second place in the division with a few more victories. In last weeks game, DE Dale Buck had 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery for a TD, and a forced fumble.
