Indoor Football League Opens 2010 With Exciting Weekend

Richmond, VA: The first weekend in the 2010 Indoor Football League season is in the books. Week One of the IFL schedule was filled with exciting, action packed energy for all fans to enjoy. The weekend featured seven games and culminated with the IFL's Game of the Week on Sunday evening between the Fairbanks Grizzlies and Alaska Wild.

The second year of IFL football kicked off Friday evening with a pair of United Conference match-ups. The West Michigan ThunderHawks hosted Atlantic Division rivals Maryland Maniacs in an exciting contest. The ThunderHawks were able to defend their home turf and in the process knock off the defending Atlantic Division Champions with a 52-36 victory. Friday's nightcap saw the Wichita Wild defeat IFL newcomers La Crosse Spartans by a score of 57-20. The IFL veteran member Wild started the season off strong while introducing the expansion Spartans to the league.

United Conference action continued Saturday featuring two league games. The Sioux City Bandits traveled to the Colorado Ice and emerged victorious 48-38 in a Central West Division Showdown. The Chicago Slaughter hosted the Rochester Raiders in a tightly contested game. The Raiders were able to play spoiler, defeating the Slaughter 49-47 on a night which celebrated the 2009 Undefeated CIFL Championship Season.

Sunday was the busiest day of Week One and featured three division match-ups within the Intense Conference. The defending United Bowl Champion Billings Outlaws started 2010 the same way that they finished 2009, with a victory. The expansion Kent Predators had a good showing but a second half push from the Champions propelled the Outlaws to a 56-40 Pacific North Division win. The Arkansas Diamonds had a successful IFL debut in defeating the Corpus Christi Hammerheads 26-18 in a Lonestar East Division contest. This defensive battle went down to the wire with the visiting Diamonds outlasting the host Hammerheads.

Week One of the 2010 IFL Season concluded with the IFL Game of the Week between Pacific North Division bitter rivals, the Fairbanks Grizzlies and the Alaska Wild. The battle of "The Last Frontier" lived up the billing as the Grizzlies emerged triumphant over the host Wild 29-28. The Grizzlies have bragging rights for the state of Alaska for the time being but the Wild will look to even the score when they visit Fairbanks March 20th.

The first week of IFL football was marked by tremendous competition and exciting entertainment. Week One has set the stage for a successful 2010 IFL season full of brewing rivalries and high quality football which continue to make the IFL "America's Premier Indoor Football League."
