Indiana Ice News Release

The Indiana Ice let the Youngstown Phantoms build a head of steam early, but a last-minute surge almost toppled the Phantoms as the Ice fell to hosts Youngstown at the Covelli Centre.

Mikhail Plotnikov, Jason Salvaggio and Joseph Widmar all logged goals for Indy while Anderson Snair bested 25 of 29 shots in net.

The Phantoms' quick-strike ability was on display again in the first period as Ryan Lowney gave Youngstown a short-lived 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest.

Plotnikov countered with his 15th goal of the season after Mitch Hults battled for the puck in the corner. The puck trickled by Sean Romeo's pads and squeaked into the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.

40 seconds late, Youngstown responded with a pair of goals in the next two minutes to walk into the locker rooms down 3-1.

The second period was quiet despite three power play opportunites. Competition heated up in the third period as Indy quick fire for a pair of their own two draw within one with nine minutes remaining in the contest.

Salvaggio potted his third goal of the season from just inside the faceoff circle. Tyler Pham took a center ice pass from Matt Roy and advanced the puck up the wing to feed Salvaggio for the marker.

17 seconds passed before Josh Jacobs ripped the puck from the point, drawing a deflection in front of the net by Widmar to pull within one of the Phantoms. The tally was his fifth of the season.

What followed next was a rash of penalty minutes by both teams, combining with several other penalties in the period for a total of 65 penalty minutes.

The Phantoms' Austin Cangelosi wrapped up the scoring with an empty netter to seal the 5-3 win.

Indy takes Saturday off before heading up I-65 for Sunday's 4:15 battle with the Chicago Steel from the Edge Ice Arena. Hockey action returns to Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, April 6 as the Ice host Team USA at 7:05 pm.
