Indiana Blizzard News Release
Dyer, IN - The All American Hockey League (AAHL) have announced today that the board of governors have accepted an application for relocation of the West Michigan Blizzard to Dyer, Indiana for the 2010-2011 season.
The new name will be the Indiana Blizzard and the team will play out of the 1,200-seat Midwest Training and Ice Center in Dyer, Indiana. Midwest Training and Ice Center is the former home of the now defunct Chi-Town Shooters.
West Michigan announced in July there were to build a new ice arena in North Shores, Michigan. Unfortunately the acquisition of addition land for parking did not come through and the team's timeline to build the arena in time for next season was shorten to a point of not being able to start construction. The Blizzard organization searched for other arenas in the Muskegon area without prevail which lead to the relocation.
The Indiana Blizzard would like to thank the fans of Muskegon for all their support throughout the 2009-2010 season and the summer. We are very disappointed and would like to apologize to the fans looking forward to the new season.
"We are saddened to leave Muskegon as we believe we had started a solid fan base" stated Blizzard Head Coach Sergei Kharin. "The people of Muskegon are first class and the city will be missed, thank you fans."
