In Front of First Sellout Crowd of the Season, New Mexico United Plays to Scoreless Draw

New Mexico United News Release
Albuquerque, NM - For the second time in a month, United played host to Austin Bold FC Saturday night. Unlike the first match, United failed to find the net, and settled for a scoreless draw. In front of a season-high sellout crowd of 9,288, United controlled much of the action and created several chances, but was unable to find the net.
Austin Bold FC was happy to sit back and counter for much of the evening, often packing the box with eight or nine players. That significant style change from the first time these two met (a 3-1 United victory) meant New Mexico saw 76% possession to just 24% for Bold. United created 11 shots through that crowded box, but none of them hit the target, leaving Austin goalkeeper Elliot Panicco without a save on the evening.
Defensively, Justin Schmidt provided excellent cover and was dangerous going forward, and Alex Tambakis recorded his second consecutive clean sheet. A point of pride, according to United Head Coach and Technical Director Troy Lesesne is the team's goals against average, which has now dropped to 0.71 on the season.
Looking ahead, New Mexico will need to put this match behind them quickly, as they take on Mountain Divisionfoe San Antonio FC at Isotopes Park this Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
