Impact Wallops University Selects 7-0 in Pre-Season Finale

BROSSARD ¬" In the last pre-season match of its training camp, the Montreal Impact registered a 7-0 shutout win against a selection of university players, Sunday afternoon, at the Bell Sports Complex, in Brossard.
Forward Pierre-Rudolph Mayard scored three goals (11th, 40th and 51st minute), while striker Ali Gerba tallied five points, two goals (65th and 87th minute) and three assists. Midfielders Luke Kreamalmeyer (19th) and Anthony Le Gall (39th) also scored for the Impact in that victory.
¬ÅWe are ending our sequence of pre-season matches on a good note, ¬Â said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. ¬ÅFriday against McGill University we wanted to see a few players but today we approached the match as a simulation of our first game of the season. This week at training we will repeat situations that we could live against Tampa Bay Saturday. ¬Â
¬ÅThis win is satisfying for the team's morale and confidence, ¬Â said Pierre-Rudolph Mayard, who will start his third season with the Impact. ¬ÅIt was a good last test before our game against Tampa Bay. We are looking forward to the beginning of the season. We feel that we are ready. ¬Â
Goalkeeper Bill Gaudette, who played the full 90 minutes of the game, registered the shutout. Defenders Nevio Pizzolitto, Philippe Billy and Kevin Hatchi, as well as midfielder Antonio Ribeiro and striker Ali Gerba also played the whole match.
Midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo left the field in the 20th minute of play due to a right thigh injury. Defender Hicham Aaboubou, midfielder David Testo, as well as forwards Reda Agourram and Idriss Ech Chergui were not available due to injuries.
¬ÅIt was a long camp but our preparation was not as heavy as in the past years, ¬Â added Dos Santos. ¬ÅI ¬â¢m happy with this camp because we kept a high level of confidence and intensity during eight weeks. ¬Â
The Impact will play its first game of the regular season in the North American Soccer League (NASL) on April 9 in Tampa Bay. The home opener at Saputo Stadium will take place on April 23.
THE GOALS
11th minute ¬" Ali Gerba gives the ball to Mayard behind the defense. Alone against the keeper, Mayard scores with a low shot from close to the penalty spot.
19th minute ¬" Following a short pass from Gerba in the 18-yard box, Kreamalmeyer controls the ball and scores with a point-blank shot.
39th minute ¬" In the middle of the field, Anthony Le Gall volleys a cross from the right side from Philippe Billy.
40th minute ¬" Mayard receives the ball from Gerba behind the defense and scores with a low shot to the opposite side of the net.
51st minute ¬" Mayard takes advantage of a ball near the goal line following a corner kicked to the second post.
65th minute ¬" Ali Gerba scores on a PK after a foul on Mayard in the 18-yard box.
87th minute ¬" Gerba controls and beats the goalkeeper with a strong shot to the opposite side of the net.
