Montreal Impact News Release
CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW SOCCER COMPLEX AT THE TECHNOPARC WILL BE DELAYED
Construction of the new soccer complex, which was slated to begin at the end of the month in the Technoparc, located south of Montreal's downtown area, will be delayed. Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo, who is spearheading the $15-million, privately funded stadium project, made the announcement Tuesday. Construction of the complex at the Technoparc will therefore be delayed as a more detailed survey of the Olympic Park is undertaken, jointly with the RIO, to determine if it could respond to the growing needs of soccer in the province. The soccer complex, which will include Saputo Stadium as well as training facilities, will be the new home of the Montreal Impact.
IMPACT TIES 1-1 WITH THE NTC
Fielding a starting eleven largely made up of players still trying to earn a spot on the team, the Montreal Impact tied the National Training Centre (NTC) 1-1, Saturday at the Lachine Catalogna Soccerplexe, in exhibition play. Montreal Impact head coach Nick De Santis took advantage of the game to evaluate certain players presently on trial with the team who are trying to earn an invitation to the club's official training camp, which will kick off April 3. Forward Rachid Madkour (85th) scored the lone goal for the Impact. Olivier Babineau (7th) had opened the score for the NTC. Another match-up with the National Training Centre will take place Friday, March 24 at 9:30 pm, at the Catalogna Soccerplexe.
IMPACT SUPPORTS THE LAVAL COMÃTES' ARRIVAL
The Montreal Impact supports the arrival of the new women's soccer team, the Laval Comètes, who will foster the development of women's soccer in the province of Quebec. "The Impact's mission has always been to help and promote the development of soccer in the province of Quebec," said Montreal Impact Joey Saputo. "I think it is important to support women's soccer. Just like boys, girls who play soccer need role models who can guide them and inspire them towards reaching their goals." As part of the Impact's support, Nick Filippone, the team's Vice-President, Technical and Finance, will also be part of the Comètes' Board, as Vice-President.
